Greener Growth
At Greener Growth we develop food-producing resources and horticultural projects that encourage the wellbeing of participants, turn under-utilized land into productive resources and improve social cohesion.
Our projects are targeted at villages, towns and cities for a wide range of community areas such as schools, colleges, universities, housing estates, business parks and offices, care homes and prisons. Our scope of work also includes community kitchen garden schemes, farming, traditional orchards, flower meadows to attract wildlife, watercourses and ponds, beehives, recreational resources and footpaths. We have developed a strong reputation for working with disadvantaged members of society, with a particular focus on prisons, ex-offenders and the homeless where the personal effect of inclusion has been transformative. Encouraging sustained social cohesion and wellbeing through nature involves adopting principles including permaculture, conservation and biodiversity. By following this approach, we offer participants choice and believe that carefully planned, sensory rich and engaging outdoor spaces can play an important role in reintroducing people to the health and therapeutic benefits of growing their own food, promoting well-being and enhancing life skills of the communities that we work with. Suffolk Organic Gardeners
We are a friendly, enthusiastic group of gardeners, allotment holders and smallholders based in the Bury St. Edmunds area; our aims are to support organic gardeners and growers in Suffolk and to promote the wider organic movement.
We aim to encourage the understanding and enjoyment of organic gardening, by meeting to share ideas, expertise and resources. We promote organic gardening in the local community, by attending local fairs and events such as East Anglia Potato Day and Bury St Edmunds Green Fair and supporting community based schemes such as Bury in Bloom. We support the wider organic movement by being a group member of both Garden Organic and the Soil Association. We also encourage individual membership. Members range in experience from complete novice to highly experienced individuals who are glad to share their expertise with others. We hold regular meetings at the Friends’ Meeting House in Bury St Edmunds and arrange garden visits. We also coordinate a group seed order each winter. We often have guest speakers to our meetings and non-members are always welcomed, though we do charge a small attendance fee.
